Nintendo has confirmed on its product page for the upcoming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass that the new tracks will be playable online even if you don’t own the Booster Course Pass. You will be able to access them in Global and Regional races online starting 22nd March. This means that the new tracks won’t cause any fragmentation of the online Mario Kart 8 Deluxe userbase as all players will have access to them. However, if you want to race through the new tracks in single player mode and multiplayer you will obviously need to own the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass which is free with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, or available to purchase separately. The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass will be delivered in waves with eight courses released over six waves which ends in 2023. This gives players a total of 48 new courses to play through both in single player, multiplayer, and online multiplayer starting 18th March.

“Courses from Wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass can be played from 18th March locally or online in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns the Booster Course Pass or has access to it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. From March 22nd, courses from Wave 1 will also appear in the Random selection when playing Global or Regional races with anyone online.”
