The best Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe players from around the world will battle it out in Japan on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April, with all the action to be livestreamed in English on YouTube in the early mornings European time. Who will emerge victorious in each game between the competitors from Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan, North America, Australia and New Zealand, and South Korea? Fans can see what lies in wait for players with the courses, maps and modes on the Nintendo of Europe website.
Representing Europe at Splatoon 3 will be team KaiZer, who clinched their trip to Japan in the climactic grand final of the two-day Splatoon 3 European Championship, held on their home turf, Germany, in October 2023. After finishing top of their group on day one, and dispatching French champions Alliance Rogue in the first semi-final on day two, KaiZer – with a line-up of captain Isik, Zerr[eZ], newcomer flyzero, and four-time German champion and former world championship runner-up WMajin – brought their quality to bear against Swiss champions Golden Ratio in the grand final. After an initial 2-1 Turf War defeat, they won four consecutive Anarchy Battle matches to secure the victory 4-1 overall. Watch the full KaiZer vs. Golden Ratio Splatoon 3 European Championship final on YouTube to see how KaiZer secured their spot at the Splatoon 3 World Championship.
On the racetrack, European hopes will rest on Thomas from France, who finished ahead of 23 other top racers in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe European Championship in October 2023. Going into the final two races in that event – Bowser’s Castle and Rainbow Road – it looked like one of the top three of ώƒ Mars, Mario or starxlx would take the ultimate victory. But it was Thomas who came through, finishing in second place in the final two races to add 24 points to his total and reach the top of the leaderboard on 101 points, a full seven points clear of starxlx in second place. Europe’s champions must now prepare for fierce global competition in Japan, and today Nintendo reveals the structure for the tournament that awaits them.
Saturday 13th April is the Splatoon 3 round robin group stage, where the six qualified regional champions will compete in Turf War battles for seeding in day two. Sunday 14th is all about the knockout stages, a mixture of Anarchy Battle modes and maps, with sets that go the distance will be settled by a nail-biting Turf War tiebreaker. Teams that top their respective groups on day one will get an automatic bye to the semi-final, starting them one step closer to the ultimate prize: the Splatoon 3 World Championship trophy.
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Sunday 14th April, the qualified 6 players will race across 12 varied courses, combining those in the base game and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass DLC. Starting on N64 Royal Raceway and finishing on Wii Rainbow Road, the racer with the highest points in total after the dust settles will lift the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship trophy.
All the action will be livestreamed from Japan, with English commentary, on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April in the early mornings European time. Stay tuned to the Nintendo of Europe website for more information.
