The European video game software and hardware data has come through for January 2023. 493,000 video game systems were sold across European markets in January (excluding the UK and Germany) which is a rise of 15.5% over January 2022. The best-selling video game system was Sony’s PlayStation 5 ahead of the Nintendo Switch family of systems and the Xbox Series X|S consoles. The best-selling video game was EA’s juggernaut, which is FIFA 23, and was followed by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto 5, which still manages to shift large numbers of copies despite the game being on the market for years.

“A rise of 15.5% over last January, and is entirely due to a massive 202% rise in PS5 sales across the continent. The PS5 was in short supply last January, but things have improved significantly. PS5 was the No.1 console of the month, just ahead of Nintendo Switch (sales down 11% over January 2022) and then Xbox Series X and S (sales down 32%).”
